Four Janata Dal leaders join BJD, more to follow
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Sunday got a shot in the arm with four senior leaders of the Janata Dal and former ministers joining the regional outfit. President of the BJD and Union Steel and Mines Minister Naveen Patnaik paraded the four leaders -- Sarat Kumar Kar, Damodar Rout, Kalindi Charan Behera, and Saharai Oram -- at a hurriedly convened news conference in Bhubaneswar.

BJP poised to spread its wings over Daman
Having succeeded in toppling the Congress-backed president of the Daman Municipal Council (DMC) Mario F Lopes, the upbeat Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to capture the civic body as well as the district panchayat. A no-confidence motion against Lopes was passed on Thursday. Nine councillors voted in favour of the motion, while six members abstained from voting.

For the residents of the proposed state of Uttaranchal, realization of their decades-long dream may still be a long way off as the issue gets increasingly caught in political cross-fire. After the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), it was the turn of Congress and the Samajwadi Party to come out against the BJP-led Government's plans to include the Udham Singh Nagar district in the proposed state.
