Three per cent medical seats for disabled -- HC

MUMBAI, July 16: The Bombay High Court today ordered the state government to reserve three per cent seats for disabled students in the different disciplines of the medical faculty.

The HC gave this order in the wake of a petition filed by a disabled student Rima Chatterjee who has now been allowed to be considered for the medical faculty. She had cited the central government legislation of Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995. Section 39 of the Act states that all government-aided educational institutions will reserve not less than three per cent seats for disabled persons.
