MUMBAI, July 16: Glowing tributes were paid to Vasant Amladi, one of the finest cricket coaches of the country, who passed away last week, in a condolence meeting held by the Coaches Association of Mumbai (CAM) at the Wankhede Stadium press conference room this evening.
Speakers dwelt upon the technical brilliance of Amladi in imparting and correcting flaws of a cricketer be it bowler or batsman, irrespective of stature. Amladi's tips benefited an entire generation of players of the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Mohammad Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar.
Former Test umpire Idris Mamsa announced the institution of an award Amladi's memory. Amladi will be imortalised in an award for the best coach in the Harris Shield Inter-Schools tournament. A similar award for the Giles Shield tournament in the name of Vithal S Patil would also follow suit, he said, while conveying his decision to donate Rs 15,000 for the awards.

Former Mumbai captain Milind Rege while the acknowledging deeds of Amladi declared that theTata Sports Club, of which he is the secretary, would dedicate a trophy for the best cricket coach to Amladi, who was also the founder member of the CAM.
Radio commentator Suresh Saraiyya, Marathi columnist Dwarkanath Sanzgiri, and Mumbai Cricket Association joint secretaries Rashid Kudrolli and Prof Ratnakar Shetty also spoke on the occasion, attended mostly by the coaches and MCA officials.
