Swiss charge Zardari with money laundering

ASSOCIATED PRESS

GENEVA, July 17: A Swiss judge said today that he has charged the husband of former Pakistani premier Benazir Bhutto with money laundering and is clearing up details before charging Bhutto. A few ``questions of procedure'' need to be cleared up before the former prime minister can be indicted, Judge Daniel Devaud said. The charging of Bhutto's husband, Asif Ali Zardari, follows the indictment in June of three Swiss citizens linked to Bhutto, who was dismissed in November 1996 on charges of corruption and misrule.

She has denied the charges, which she claims are concocted by political opponents. Bhutto was in the UAE visiting her children and could not be reached for comment.
