Man tries to hang himself in PGI

CHANDIGARH, July 17: Two persons, including a woman, reportedly attempted to commit suicide during in the past 24 hours. One of them has been booked by the city police.

CHANDIGARH, July 17: Two persons, including a woman, reportedly attempted to commit suicide during in the past 24 hours. One of them has been booked by the city police.

Vijay Kumar (24), a resident of Sector 20, who was admitted to the PGI de-addiction ward, reportedly attempted to hang himself in a toilet. Police said Kumar attempted to hang himself with a rubber pipe yesterday but was spotted by a PGI employee, who informed security. A case for attempt to commit suicide under Section 309 of the IPC has been registered.

Meanwhile, Rajni Devi, a resident of Sector 23, consumed poison at her residence late last night. She was admitted to PGI and her condition is stated to be serious. The exact cause of the suicide attempt is not known, police said.
