In the 70th minute, Khambiton put a square pass to Fernandes who got past the left-back with sheer speed. But his low grounder was saved by Mitra even as substitute Henry Picardo, who was unmarked nearby, failed to capitalise on the rebound opportunity.
A-I striker Fernandes was somewhat unlucky as his header off a Sinha's cross went just over the bar. In the dying minutes, Khalid Jamil unleashed a left-foot volley which was not very far from the target and just sailed over the bar.
The equaliser for BoI came off a indirectfree-kick when Jamil stamped substitute Naveen Kotian. Cardoz's powerful shot gave no chance to M Yousaf Ansari, the Air India goalkeeper.
Bimal Ghosh, coach-cum-manager of Air India brought in Picardo for Tigga in the second half to increase the pressure on the BoI defence while SN Devadas, BoI coach utilised the maximum limit of three changes by bringing in Basir Hussain, Navin Kotian and Anton Saldanha.
