DERA BASSI, JULY 19: Punjab Finance Minister Kanwaljit Singh today announced that the restriction on registration of land within the municipal limits of Dera Bassi block had been lifted.Earlier, the Punjab Government had imposed restrictions on registration of lands under municipal limits through a special notification.
Addressing gathering present on Environment Protection Day function organised by local unit of Rotary Club, he said that the state government had withdrawn the restriction on registry in the town and the process would begin shortly. A direction in this regard has already been issued to the revenue officials concerned, he added.
While expressing his concern over the degradation of environment, the Finance Minister singled out vehicular pollution as a main cause contributing towards this problem by emitting smokes and other pollutants. He said that a survey conducted earlier indicated that 70 per cent people of Delhi had been affected by the environmental degradation.
Giving a clarion call to the people of the state to help the government in reducing pollution level in the state, the Minister disclosed that the sufficient fund would be released to the villages for augmentation of sewerage systems. He disclosed that 25 per cent grant would be provided by the non-resident Indians (NRIs) for providing civic amenities in rural areas.
In its bid to improve the infrastructure in the village, the Minister said that the government would provide furniture shortly in government as well private schools. He also distributed uniforms to the poor and downtrodden students of the local Sarvhitkari Vidya Mandir and Jain schools. The uniforms were provided by the Rotary Club.
