Function to mark vocalist's death anniversary

VADODARA, July 19: A two-hour musical programme was held on Saturday by students of the Faculty of Performing Arts, M S University to mark the 15th death anniversary of Vadodara's most distinguished vocalist and composer Paresh Bhatt.

Organised by Re Ma Pa Ni, at least 25 students of the faculty presented at least 15 compositions to an enthralled audience, despite two major power shutdowns.

The solos were presented by Suresh Joshi, Jignesh Shah, Mehul Patel, Pragati Vora, Ashita Mohite, Hemali Dholakia, Prakash Naik, Amin Limaye and Nisha Shah, all former or present students of the faculty. Four group songs were also presented on the occasion by Swarna Dixit, Lata Soni, Shweta Kansara, Nirali Vaghela, Smriti Vaghela, Arti Joshipura, Shefali and Falguni Naik, Alap Munshi, Ankil Shah, Rakesh Dave, Ravin Naik and Amin Dhamelia. The accompanists, also students, included Jagdish Naik and Sandeep Panchal (tabla), Vijay (dholak), Amin Dhamelia (synthesiser), Ojas Vora (guitar) and Dhaval Kansara (side rhythms).

Senior artistes of the city including Markand Bhatt, R C Mehta and Jawahar Bakshi were special guests at the programme.
