MUMBAI, July 24: Maharashtra Minister of State for General Administration Prabhakar More today assured that the backlog of Vidarbha would be completed by 2000 as the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance government has chalked out a time-bound programme for the development of the region.
Earlier, moving an unofficial resolution demanding separate state of Vidarbha for its overall development in the Assembly, Sudhir Mungantiwar (BJP) said the State should recommend the Centre to give a separate status of statehood to Vidarbha under the constitutional provisions.
Mungantiwar said that the demand for Vidarbha state was not new. He said Dr B R Ambedkar, former prime minister Lal Babadur Shastri, Saryodaya leader Vinoba Bhave and economist Chintaman Deshmukh and others had supported the demand.
