CHANDIGARH, July 26: The Punjab Cricket Association secretary confirmed yesterday that negotiations were on with former Indian pace bowler and Mumbai coach Balwinder Singh Sandhu to take over as chief coach of the state Ranji Trophy team from this season.``In view of the poor performance of the Ranji team last season, we feel it is time to take stock. We feel that the team has been suffering from lack of mental toughness and team effort.
"Balwinder Sandhu was here last month for an off-season camp and we would like him to take up the job as a full time coach of the state team,'' Pandove said.
Pandove further informed, ``As regards changes in the team, once Sandhu comes over, we will chart out the future plans. We hope to put the team back on rails and won't mind doing drastic changes in the side for that.''
Sandhu's contract as coach with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) had ended last April.
