MUMBAI, July 26: Village Amboli edged past Naval Dockyard 2-1 in an MDFA Harwood League Football match at the St Xavier's Ground, Parel, today.
The winners, combining well, surged to a 2-0 lead at the interval before Naval Dockyard attempted a comeback in the second half.
Sydney Xavier put Amboli ahead in the 16th minute before Robin D'Almeida consolidated the lead in the 22nd minute.
Daryl Rasquinha's reduced the margin after 51 minutes to bring the game alive but Village Amboli clung on to their slender lead to collect three points.
With a little over a quarter of an hour of play having elapsed, Xavier collected D'Almeida's pass from the right flank move into the area before chipping over goalkeeper Joivas D'Souza to draw first blood.
Movement down the right side of the pitch caused further damage to the Dockyard citadel and barely six minutes later, Philibert Pereira paved way for Amboli's two-goal cushion.

Denis Creado in the Village Amboli goal stood firm against all that Dockyard had to throw at him but was beaten eventually after Dockyard pieced together a move on the right flank.
Simon Fernandes found Darryl Rasquinha who overcame desperate defence on the goalline to squeeze his shot in.
A windfall of goals marked Cecelian's win over Striker Boys in Division III. Cecelian won 3-2 with goals by Agnelo Lobo who found the net twice. Ryan Alfonso scored the other. Mahesh Vichare and Vinu Chandran netted for the losers.
In Div IIB, MLWB (Worli) got the better of St Joseph's (Mira Road) by a solitary goal. The all-important strike being made by Bharat Pillay.
In other matches, MLWB (Andheri) and Miners were concerned in a 1-1 draw. Arun Selvan was on target for Miners while Jonathan Fernandes scored for MLWB.
MLWB (Naigaum) and NMJ Rd) failed to turnup against Young Dynamos and Marol Village Boys respectively.
