One succumbs to gastroenteritis

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, July 26: With one of the gastroenteritis patients in Pavijetpur taluka of Vadodara district succumbing to the disease, the district has also joined several areas of the State where this seasonal disease is taking its toll. Pavijetpur town and several villages around it have also been declared as cholera-prone, it was officially declared on Saturday.

Dismissing reports about two deaths due to the disease appearing in a section of Press, Panchayat department's health officer V T Javli told Express Newsline that only one Mathurbhai Rathwa, 50, resident of Vaodi village, had died because of malaria as well as severe gastroenteritis on Friday.

However, all the 50-odd patients hailing from different areas in and around Pavijetpur town, brought to government health centres in groups during the past one week had either been discharged or were undergoing treatment, he claimed and added that all of them were out of danger.

Javli, who returned from his two-day visit from the Vaodi and Bhisavadi villages of the Pavijetpur taluka, however admitted that several cases of gastroenteritis and cholera were reported from some areas.

``Our health workers were distributing medicines, ORS as well as chlorinating water sources whenever and wherever required and the situation is under control,'' he claimed and added that the contaminated water-sources had also been identified and the villagers warned against its use.

District Development Officer Anju Sharma who also visited the spot said ``The situation is completely under control as of today and only one case of gastroenteritis was reported from Pavijetpura town.'' The area is still being monitored minutely, she added.
