CHANDIGARH, July 26: Five firms operating as "immigration agencies" in Chandigarh have been booked on the charges of cheating and operating without valid documents. Police sources said that based on a complaint filed by Ravijit Singh of the Union Ministry of Labour office in the Sector 9 Kendriya Sadan, a case was registered under the Immigration Act and Section 420 of the IPC.Worldwide Immigration in Sector 22, International Immigration and Investment Services, MDK Immigration Consultants, Sector 35, Canada India Immigration and Services and Sunrise Immigration Consultation Pvt Ltd in Sector 8, were operating without appropriate licences, police said.
Unable to divulge further details, police sources said, "These firms have been placing advertisements in newspapers but they are not licensed to offer immigration to individuals." The case is being investigated into by the Economic Offences Wing of the Chandigarh Police.
