CHANDIGARH, July 26: Sudhir Upadhaya and Kanchan covered themselves with glory in the fifth Chandigarh State Triathlon Meet here at the Punjab University Campus this morning.
The duo displayed tremendous speed and endurance to clinch the men's and women's crowns respectively.
For Sudhir, the win was another proof of his dominance. His combined timing of 2 hours 16 minutes and 57 seconds at 1500m in swimming, 10 km road running and 40 km of cycling, proved more than handful for him to showcase his superiority. He finished a good 20 minutes ahead of his nearest rival Mandeep Singh (2::36:40 sec), who took the silver and Rakesh Kumar (2::40:50 sec) who finished third.
Kanchan quelled compatriot Jaspal Kaur's defiance, relegating her to the second place while Sushma had the consolation of picking up a bronze.
Harsimran Brar took the gold among junior boys with a timing of 1::11:34 (1000m swimming, eight km of road running and 20 km cycling). Rohit Sharma and Avinash Mishra picked up the silver and bronze respectively.
Gurpreet Kaur and Monica finished first-second among junior girls.
In the sub-junior category, Arvind Sehdev won the boys section while Neerja Saini crowned herself in the girls section.
