Delhi Blues to tour UK

NEW DELHI, July 26: The Delhi Blues Cricket Club will undertake a month-long tour of the United Kingdom from July 29 to play a number of friendly games against teams from Guernsey Island, Leicester Banks, Yorkshire County Club, London Cricketers, Indian Gymkhana, etc.

NEW DELHI, July 26: The Delhi Blues Cricket Club will undertake a month-long tour of the United Kingdom from July 29 to play a number of friendly games against teams from Guernsey Island, Leicester Banks, Yorkshire County Club, London Cricketers, Indian Gymkhana, etc.

The team will be led by former Haryana leg-spinner Sandeep Joshi and includes a number of trainees from the National and Nehru Stadium in the Capital. Dronacharya Awardee and former national coach Gurcharan Singh, Sports Authority of India cricket coach V K Jain and physical trainer D K tandon will accompany the team which is expected to return in the first week of September. During the tour, the team members will also witness the England vs South Africa Test.

At a function to bid farewell to the team on Sunday afternoon, Delhi Blues presented scholarships to some of its outstanding cricketers for their performance in local tournaments in the previous season.

Radhey Shyam Gupta and Inderbir Singh received Rs 12,000 each (annually) while Shashi Ranjan and Randeep Singh were given Rs 6,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively.

Two-day league for schools
A new cricket association, in the name of National Capital Territory Cricket Association, has been formed in the Capital, with former India international Kirti Azad as its president.

The association has chalked out a plan to introduce two-day league at the school and college level. ``We will divide Delhi into nine zones corresponding to the districts of Delhi, for schools tournaments. We also plan to approach the Delhi University authorities for proving the players with three-day cricket,'' Azad explained the reason behind the launching of the new association.
