VADODARA, July 28: The process of inviting applications for the post of the vice-chancellor of M S University will have to begin all over again as the third and final meeting of the three-member search committee constituted for the purpose ended inconclusively on Monday. The three-hour-long deliberations, however, appeared to have reached a consensus on avoiding local candidates.
If the committee formalises this opinion, it will prevent Vadodara-based academics from heading the most prestigious institution in the city.
The committee members are learnt to have said that since the university had a residential status, it needed a person with a strong academic as well as administrative background. Applications are now being considered from other parts of the State, the country and abroad. Earlier, applications were invited from various senior professors of the university for the position.
The term of the present V-C is scheduled to end by the beginning of September. The committee comprises former Pro-Vice Chancellor Veena Mistry, former Union minister Y K Alagh and Praveen Maniyar of Saurashtra University.
