NEW DELHI, Aug 3: In a blistering attack on the Vajpayee Government today, Congress President Sonia Gandhi came down heavily on its economic policies saying these have led to a slow down in economic growth and spiralling prices.
‘‘The biggest failure of the BJP-led government is its failure to accelerate economic growth and check price rise in the country, she told the second All India Girl Delegate Convention organised by the National Students Union of India (NSUI) here.
She called upon the younger generation, specially girls, to take a lead in social transformation and nation building and refrain from indulging in petty politics.
‘‘The youth of this country should concentrate on challenges confronting the nation, she said.
‘‘Politics is not just about getting tickets for elections, but social change and transformation, she said and reminded delegates that one out of every three Indians still lives below the poverty line.

Describing youth as the present and future of the country, she said the Congress had in its manifesto in the last Lok Sabha promised a uniform education system for all Indians to ensure a better future for them.
