Munde meets senior cops

MUMBAI, August 3: Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde today held a marathon meeting with senior police officers and secretaries of the home department to discuss the possible fallout of the tabling of the Srikrishna report in the state legislature and its effect on the law and order situation in the state.

Later in the day, Munde also addressed a meeting of various political leaders, including Uddhav Thackeray, son of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray. Munde and the other leaders appealed to the people to maintain calm and communal harmony.

The Maharashtra government today also requisitioned the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and CRPF contingents from the Centre. The Srikrishna report probing into the 1992-93 communal riots will be tabled in the state legislature before August 7, 1998.
