CHANDIGARH, Aug 3: A resident of Burail village was reportedly beaten to death late last night by associates and relatives of a Home Guard Volunteer (HGV) with whom he had quarrelled two days ago.

Shahzad, 21, an electrician, was beaten up by Krishana Nand Dubey, Prem Tiwari, Pushpinder Kumar, Akshey Kumar and Pramod Tiwari, police said. The victim was taken to the Sector 32 Government Medical College where he was declared "brought dead".

Shahzad and two of his brothers had reportedly quarrelled with Sumant Kumar Dubey, the HGV, who had moved in as a tenant in the same building, about two days ago, police said. The deceased's cousin, Tabasum, told the police that all the accused came to their house at 9.45 p.m. yesterday and started thrashing Shahzad. By the time the police arrived, the victim had lost consciousness, she added.

The police have registered a case of rioting and culpable homicide not amounting to murder against all accused and arrested them, sources said.
