NEW DELHI, August 4: Dispelling all speculation, the Indian Olympic Assocation (IOA) today announced that the 5th National Games will be held in Imphal (Manipur) from October 4-14.
The dates are final and all the infrastructure is almost complete, said IOA president Suresh Kalmadi here this afternoon.
The IOA chief asserted that the 5th National Games will be much better organised than compared to the Pune and Bangalore Nationals.
Over 8000 sportspersons and officials are likely to participate in the 11-day long games, Kalmadi told a crowded press conference.
He said there will be 27 discipline and two demonstration events in the games.
Kalmadi said two weeks before the National Games, north eastern state games will be conducted to test and check the infrastructure.
He said the organising committee of the games has done a spectacular job and the IOA is quiet happy the way infrastructure for the games has come up.
Kalmadi said the state government has made full proof security arrangments for thesafe conduct of the games and the people of the region are also fully involved in the build up of the games.
The IOA chief said the organising committee of the games will meet in Imphal on August 18 to discuss the arrangments.
The organisers have assured the IOA that all the stadia will be complete by the end of this month. Kalmadi said the games village consisting of 800 houses is 95 percent complete and will be ready by August 25.
The organisers have imported various equipments most of which has already arrived in Imphal but in case some equipment is not not received in time standby arrangments have been made with the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
Kalmadi said the synthetic track has already reached in Imphal has yet to be laid in the Khuman Lampak Stadium. The delay was due to rainy season. The hockey stadium is also 98 percent complete.
