MiC top post reserved for OBC candidate

MUMBAI, August 6: The post of the president of the Mayor-in-Council in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the next term has been reserved for a person belonging to the Other Backward Class (OBC). The term of the present president Gajanan Thackare ends in April next year.

The state government reserved the posts of the mayors in the state and the presidents of the BMC and the Nagpur MiC through a lottery. The posts of mayors in Thane, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai and Sangli have been reserved for OBC candidates. The posts of the mayors of Nashik, Nanded and Nagpur have been reserved for women, and those in Solapur and Kolhapur has been reserved for scheduled caste candidates.
