Baboor, Indu top seeds

MUMBAI, Aug 6: National champion Chetan Baboor of Petroleum Sports Control Board (PSCB) and N R Indu of Tamil Nadu have been given the pride of place in the men's and women's singles respectively in the Rs 1.2 lakh prize money All India Invitation Khar Gymkhana table tennis tournament here from August seven to Eleven.

The current women's national champion Kasturi Chakraborthy is seeded behind Indu while former men's national champions and Baboor's teammates S Raman, S Sriram and Arup Basak are seeded second, third and fourth respectively.

The men's winner would be richer by Rs 30,000 while women's winner would take home Rs 20,000, he added.

Men's singles: 1. Chetan Baboor (PSCB), 2. S Raman (PSCB), 3. S Sriram (PSCB), 4. Arup Basak (PSCB), 5. Ganesh Kundu (RLYS), 7. Subhajit Saha (BNG), 8. J Prem Kumar (TN).

Women's singles: 1. N R Indu (TN), 2. Kasturi Chakraborthy (RLYS), 3. M S Mythili (PSCB), 4. Anandita Chakraborthy (Rlys) 5. B Bhuvaneshwari (PSCB), 6. Johnson Bridge

The Johnson & Johnson bridge tournament will be held on August 29 and August 30. There will be two events -- team of four duplicates and team of four progressive. The first will be of eight rounds with four teams qualifying for the final while the second will be played on Sunday alongside with the Duplicate final.

The tournament is open to only Pharma, health care and other institutions which are connected with the hosts.

Entry fee for the duplicate event is Rs 1,000 and for the progressive is Rs 500. Entries can be give to Archie Sequeira of SC Kamath on 3861431 or fax it on the number 3801482.
