CHANDIGARH, Aug 6: The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh has formed a three-member panel to probe the alleged irregularities in the purchases made by the MC stores.

CHANDIGARH, Aug 6: The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh has formed a three-member panel to probe the alleged irregularities in the purchases made by the MC stores.

According to the mayor Gian Chand Gupta, the panel comprising MC secretary Amarpal Singh, assistant commissioner S.M. Sharma and superintending engineer (public Health) Manmohanjit Singh, will be coordinated by municipal councillor R.K. Aggarwal, and would submit its report within a week.

He added that the probe would enquire into the alleged irregularities in certain purchases made by the stores section, especially with regard to the purchase of paint in the recent past.

Sources said that the paint worth about Rs 3 lakh had been purchased by the stores section without inviting any tenders.Sources add that the purchases were made on the basis of "slips" issued by certain MC officers and no bills were also issued for the same.Earlier, the mayor along with the commissioner had raided the stores section and had a first-hand account of the alleged irregularities. They had also visited the shops in Sector 18 where the purchases were made.
