Gough wraps up series win for England
England completed a famous victory on the final morning of the fifth and final Test against South Africa at Headingley today to clinch their first five-Test series win in nearly 12 years. The last two South African wickets fell for 10 runs to leave the tourists 24 runs short of their target of 219, giving the series to England 2-1.

Yugoslavia brave Russian storm
Warning bells rang the day Canada's basketball coach Steve Konchalski declared: "Today we got a traditional kick in the butt from a great team." That team was Yugoslavia and yesterday they delivered their last and most important blow - beating Russia 64-62 in world championship final to win the title for the fourth time.

Rafter cruises to Canadian Open title
Australian Patrick Rafter completed a sensational week of tennis by winning the $2.45 million Du Maurier Canadian Open with a 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 victory over Richard Krajicek of the Netherlands. The third seed survived boiling heat and humidity yesterday to beat the sixth-seeded Krajicek for only the second time in eight tries.
