More rebels surrender in Assam; to be absorbed in Central force
Three weeks after the first batch of 51 ULFA rebels laid down their arms at Thakurbari in Northern Assam, a second batch of 133 ULFA militants in addition to seven belonging to the two Bodo groups surrendered to the authorities on Thursday, with the government announcing that they would be absorbed in the central para-military forces.

Vigilance inquiry planned against Gill
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is planning to initiate a vigilance inquiry against Prasar Bharati CEO S S Gill for appropriating financial powers and misleading the board. In his defence, Gill says: "If I exceeded my powers, it was only because these were never notified. I cannot close shop and sit at home."

Revised pay is non-negotiable, teachers told
The Human Resource Development Ministry has decided to take a tough stand on the striking teachers' demand for increased pay scales by refusing to initiate any further negotiations with the latter on this issue. The HRD ministry was adamant on not giving into the demands of the striking teachers any further as it felt that the revised pay package announced earlier was adequate.
