President slams MPs' unruly conduct
President K R Narayanan yesterday expressed concern over the deteriorating conduct of MPs in Parliament and the cynicism which had crept into the public mind about politics and administration. Addressing the nation on the occasion of the closing ceremony of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the country's Independence, he also defended India's nuclear tests and urged Pakistan to resolve all differences with India though bilateral means.

PM to consult Pawar on CVC appointment
As a sequel to the bureaucratic reshuffle, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Home Minister L K Advani will hold a meeting today with the Leader of Opposition Sharad Pawar to discuss the appointment of Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC). The meeting scheduled will discuss the draft statute prepared by the Law Commission making the post of the CVC a statutory one as per the directions of the Supreme Court in the hawala judgment.
