CHENNAI, August 16: All India Anna DMK allies PMK and the MDMk denied that front leader Jayalalitha had any plans to destabilise the Vajpayee government at the Centre. In a significant development, the Pattali Makkal Katchi founder leader S Ramadoss today said that his party was opposed to withdrawing support to the government and conveyed the same to AIADMK chief and front leader Jayalalitha. He voiced the hope that she ``would not ignore the views of her allies''.Talking to newsmen after a party meeting here, he claimed that Marumalachi DMK general secretary Vaiko had also conveyed a similar view in the recently held front meeting.
Even as doubts prevailed in the absence so far of any firm commitment by the AIADMK chief after George Fernandes' meetings with her, Ramadoss firmly believed that Jayalalitha who had been authorised to take an appropriate decision at an appropriate time, would not withdraw support.
Asked about Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy's demand to pull the plug on Vajpayee,Ramadoss said this was ``Swamy's individual opinion''.Alleging that the Congress was conspiring to topple the BJP-led government and put the blame on Jayalalitha for forcing a mid-term poll, he said Jayalalitha was aware of the gameplan and would not fall into the trap.Going adverse to the stand taken by Vaiko and Ramadoss was Swamy, who met Jayalalitha along with Vaiko on Saturday evening. Swamy said the AIADMK Front's support to the BJP-led Government was `still under review'.
The Janata Party leader counterpoint came when he claimed he had ``Jayalalitha's blessings'' to attend a meeting of `all secular parties' being convened by Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha leader Mulayam Singh Yadav for the touted `secular and patriotic' alternative to the BJP Government, for which Jayalalitha too has an invitation.
``I am committed to finding an alternative,'' he said, adding, ``If you go by the statements of George Fernandes over the years, you will know what value to attach to it.''
Meanwhile, Vaiko, maintainingthat the AIADMK and its allies stuck to their position on Cauvery that Chief Minister Karunanidhi had `surrendered' the interests of the state, the MDMK leader said the question of reviewing support to the BJP-led coalition at the Centre `does not arise'.
Several senior AIADMK leaders including presidium chairman V R Nedunchezian who met Jayalalitha said that the status quo with regard to the review threat continued.
AIADMK Parliamentary Party leader Sedapatti R Muthiah, maintained that his leader would take an `appropriate decision at the appropriate time'. It is a clear betrayal of the state, he said on the Cauvery issue. When scribes persisted with queries on the `review threat', he said, ``The question of threat will arise only when a decision is made.''
