DAVANAGERE, AUGUST 21: The ongoing teachers' strike has landed male students in a strange kind of trouble: Twenty nine of them have been booked for eve-teasing.

The parents of the youths were also summoned to the police station and warned by the cops to make their wards behave properly. The students are incensed. ``It is our usual practice to stand near our college campus after the classes are over. There is no management rule against this. Besides, because our teachers are on strike, we have no classes to attend. And now, even if we stand near the campus, we are being booked for eve-teasing,'' they complain.

The youths booked last week were standing near RL Law College campus when the police swooped down on them. Angry students took out a procession in the city, protesting against the police action. ``Eve-teasing is a serious social crime for which punishment is very necessary,'' says Superintendent of Police Gopal Hosur. He concedes, however, that a few innocent students might have been booked along with the real culprits.
