Barua, Saravanan play out draws

TEHRAN, AUG 22: Grandmsater Dibyendu Barua (4) held top-seed Dao Thien Hai of Vietnam while International Master V Saravanan (3.5) escaped by the skin of his teeth, drawing with local IM Amir Bagheri to maintain his unbeaten run after the sixth round games in the Asian Chess championships here today.The third Indian in fray, GM Pravin Thipsay (3.5) drew with Miklail Saltaev as the Indians maintained their positions with five rounds to go in the tournament ending August 26.As a result of round full of draws, the lead stayed with Rustam Kasimdzhanov (5) of Uzbekistan who was held to a draw by compatriot Sergi Zagrebeleny (4.5). Barua came out with a creditable draw against the top seed in 30 moves, following a semi-Slav defence game. The Indian had black pieces and in rook and bishop equal ending niether players had an edge. They agreed to a truce, unwilling to take risks in the crucial middle stage of the tournament.
