The dangerous dead end
The crisis of governance continues. The BJP is not able to lead its allies despite its numerical preponderance. The conglomerate that is ruling is not able to achieve coherence and cohesion despite the pretence of accepting the pompously-titled National Agenda for Governance.

Warriors and thinkers
One thing is certain. Atal Behari Vajpayee is going to have a very stimulating time indeed with the warriors and thinkers appointed to his new business advisory and economic advisory councils. With the Tatas, Birlas, Ambanis and other heavyweights in one and I. G. Patel, M. S. Ahluwalia, Amaresh Bagchi et al in the other, there is a formidable array of talent and experience available to the Prime Minister.

Oh God, it's those wise men again
Judging by the initial press reports as well as the analyses by pundits, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee appeared to have scored heavily with his decision to appoint two committees of wise men to help him steer the country's economy out of its present rut. With the panel on trade and industry packed with some of the country's best-known industrialists like Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata, Parvinder Singh, and Narayana Murthy, surely Vajpayee's a winner.
