Impeachment crisis may stall Indo-US dialogue
As one of the gravest political crises in American history paralyses Washington, the Clinton administration's ongoing engagement with India and Pakistan over nuclear proliferation and other matters has become inextricably mired in the domestic developments and may suffer as a consequence. There is some danger that the ongoing dialogue between Washington and the two subcontinental neighbours may lose momentum or even fizzle over altogether.

Starr corners Clinton in report
The wheels of the American system of justice ground on relentlessly pushing President Clinton to the threshold of impeachment and removal from office. Amid high drama on Thursday, Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr transmitted to Congress his report containing "substantial and credible evidence'' that the President committed perjury and obstructed justice in covering up his affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

Imelda makes final legal bid to stay out of prison
Former Philippines first lady Imelda Marcos on Thursday mounted her last stand to remain outside prison as the government, lawyers and communist guerrillas fought over her late husband's large estate. The widow of the deposed dictator Ferdinand Marcos sat in at a Supreme Court hearing as her lawyer argued for her acquittal on a 1993 graft case, for which the court last January sentenced her to between nine and 12 years in jail.
