Sunni militants torch Shiite mosque in Pakistan

ASSOCIATED PRESS
ISLAMABAD, SEPT 14: Scores of rampaging Sunni Muslim militants poured kerosene oil on a Shiite Muslim mosque and set it on fire today outside the capital, Islamabad, in the latest spate of violence between rival Islamic groups, police said.

No one was injured.

Militant Sunni Muslims belonging to the Sipah-e-Sahaba, or `guardians of the friends of the Prophet', attacked the Shiite mosque in Wah town, some 40 km west of Islamabad, local police officials said.

The militants, shouting slogans against Shiites, surrounded the mosque before setting it on fire, police said.

The mosque was partially destroyed in the attack, they said.

The attack came two days after four gunmen shot and killed a Sunni Muslim leader and three of his companions in Islamabad.
