BJP bows to President's wishes
Stung by Friday's snub from President K R Narayanan and bowing to relentless pressure from its allies, the BJP-led Government decided yesterday not to press for the dismissal of the Bihar state government. At an hour-long formal meeting chaired by Home Minister L K Advani, the Union Cabinet decided against sending back the recommendation which Narayanan had returned for reconsideration.

Victory of secular forces, says Laloo
RJD President Laloo Prasad Yadav yesterday said that the decision of the Union Cabinet not to re-recommend imposition of President's rule in Bihar was a victory for secular forces. Yadav said that he, alongwith the Chief Minister Rabri Devi, would meet the President today to thank him for upholding democracy and constitution.

Tendulkar, Dravid mastermind Indian win
Sachin Tendulkar blasted a world record 18th one-day century, cracking an unbeaten 127, to guide India to a crushing eight-wicket win over Zimbabwe with 7.4 overs to spare at the Queen's Club ground in Bulawayo yesterday. Tendulkar added 180 runs for the second wicket with Rahul Dravid to take India to 216 for two in 42.2 overs after medium-pacer Ajit Agarkar (3-42) and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh (3-36) helped restrict Zimbabwe to 213.
