MUMBAI, Sept 28: The Bombay High Court today adjourned to November 16 a group of petitions urging the court to direct the state government to take action against those indicted in the Justice B N Srikrishna Commission report on Mumbai riots of 1992-93.
The division bench of Chief Justice M B Shah and Justice Y S Jahagirdar was slated to hear the petitions filed by Bombay Aman Committee, Maharashtra Minorities' Front, Samajwadi Party city unit vice-president Tushar Gandhi and Committee for Protection of Democratic Rights.
However, Advocate General C J Sawant told the court that similar petition was to be heard in the Supreme Court on October 7. He requested for an adjournment, which was granted by the bench.
Earlier, Tushar Gandhi's counsel Majeed Memon argued that petition in the apex court challenged section three of the Commission of Inquiry Act which empowers the state government to act upon the findings of a commission report. However, Gandhi's petition urged for direction to the state governmentand police to prosecute all those found guilty in the Mumbai riots. And the MMF petition calls for the intervention of the Central Bureau of Investigation while taking action against those found guilty in the Srikrishna probe.
