Early results show Cardoso reelected in Brazil
Incumbent Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso won yesterday's presidential election, netting more than 50% of the votes, according to preliminary results.

Singaporean couples marry on the Net
Fourteen Singaporean couples had their marriages broadcast live on the internet global computer network in what is said to be the world's first. Friends and relatives of the couple could view the ceremonies by logging on to the web site, sign electronic guest books, and send congratulatory digital cards to the couples.

Iran postpones military exercises at Afghan border
The Iranian army has postponed for a week or two, huge exercises it had planned to stage near the Afghan border this week. The army decided to hold the manoeuvres near the Afghan border following a rise in tension with the Taliban Islamic militia over the murder of Iranian diplomats in Afghanistan in August.
