Generally speaking
Most of General Jehangir Karamat's severe criticism of the Nawaz Sharif government is well-founded and will not surprise the political establishment in Pakistan. It is the army chief's decision to go public with his complaints that is shocking.

Grassroot revolution
The Kerala Local Self-Government Institutions (Prevention of Defection) Ordinance, promulgated last week, is less of an assault on an unhealthy practice of our electoral politics than on the Opposition in the state ruled by the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front.
