Calm returning to Biharsharif
The situation in strife-torn Biharsharif town is gradually returning to normal with no untoward incident reported from any part of the town. District magistrate AK Singh said majority of the shops opened up even as security forces continued to patrol the streets. A peace march by top civil and police officers, social workers and distinguished people was taken out to instil confidence in the people.

Sixteen cops die, 14 hurt in landmine explosion
Sixteen policemen were feared killed and 14 others injured when the two vehicles in which they were travelling encountered landmines laid by Naxalites at Dantewada district on Thursday. Eight of the injured, said to be in critical condition, have been airlifted to Raipur for treatment. Sub-divisional police officer IL Netam is among the injured.

AP education scheme goes awry
