Governor's remark on Art 356 fuelling BJP designs: Laloo
Rashtriya Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav on Thursday berated Bihar Governor Sunder Singh Bhandari's claim that the state was fit for application of Article 356 and accused him of trying to create instability in the state by passing such comments. "By trying to defend his (Governor's) wrong recommendation for imposition of President's Rule in Bihar, Bhandari is creating instability in the state and there by hampering implementation of development projects,'' Yadav said.

Fernandes: Defending Govt from allies
George Fernandes has taken over from Jaswant Singh and Pramod Mahajan as Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's main troubleshooter when it comes to handling fractious allies. The Defence Minister's ammunition -- persuasiveness and political experience -- is coming in handy for the 18-party coalition government.

Ahluwalia in the dock for press leak
The Congress high command is believed to have issued a showcause notice to former minister S S Ahluwalia for "leaking'' his letter to the media in which he criticised the party's policy of backing Laloo Yadav during the recent Bihar crisis. The notice is understood to have been sent by the AICC general secretary concerned, Madhavrao Scindia.
