Kashmiris cold to Taliban's repressive Islam
Immediately after the Taliban gained control over Afghanistan, posters appeared overnight in a Srinagar college, urging women students to wear burqas. It was signed by a group no one had heard of, the Taliban-e-Kashmir. Women ignored the threat, a leading woman secessionist leader and Islamic zealot Asiya Andrabi openly criticized the Taliban's ``repressive'' message.

Air Force honours war widows, 27 years later
Twenty-seven years after the death of their husbands, two Kashmiri women were conferred with the honour and recognition by the Indian Air Force. The two lost their husbands during the 1971 war when a Pakistani aircraft bombed Old Airfield.

World forest reserves dwindling: WWF
More than ten per cent of the world's forest reserves have been squandered in the last decade, a recent report by the World Wide Fund for Nature says. Joint director of Zoological Survey of India, S K Mitra said that the world has lost 10% of its forests, 30% of marine life and above 40% of freshwater resources.
