Pak House passes Shariat Bill
Pakistan's National Assembly, which is dominated by the ruling PML-N party, overwhelmingly voted yesterday morning to pass the Shariat Bill, which will pave the way for the Nawaz Sharif government acquiring sweeping powers to interpret and impose laws based on interpretations of the Holy Quran, the Muslim holy book.

Inderfurth asks Pakistan to persuade Taliban
United States assistant secretary for South Asia Karl F Inderfurth has urged Pakistan, which he noted is a supporter of Taliban, to persuade the Afghan militia to negotiate a political settlement for a broad-based government in Afghanistan.
