MUMBAI, October 12: Over five months after Chhota Shakeel hitman Feroz Konkani escaped from police custody, Thane police commissioner Bhujangrao Mohite dismissed a police officer and constable for dereliction of duty on Friday.During his incarceration at Thane central jail, Konkani was brought to JJ Hospital on the pretext of treatment by a party from the Thane police headquarters. The police team comprised police sub-inspector Satish Ganpat Gavate and constables Suryaji Ganpat Sawant and P D Kardilley on May 7. In the ensuing exchange of fire between Konkani's aides and the police, Kardilley was fatally injured.
Following the escape, the JJ Marg police arrested PSI Gavate and Sawant and remanded them to custody. They were declared as accused and placed under suspension. On Friday, under section 311 of the Indian Penal Code, Mohite dismissed both the policemen.
Additional commissioner of Thane police S S Wagal said, ``They were dismissed as their dereliction of duty was established.'' Konkani is stillat large.
