MUMBAI, Oct 12: Supriya Sawant alias Pinky (14), accused as an accomplice in the Rupali Patil murder case, was arrested and presented before the juvenile court in Bhiwandi today. However, Judge N K Chavan deferred till Tuesday his decision to remand her, and she would have spent Monday night in a remand home at Bhiwandi.According to the prosecution, it was at Supriya's behest that the accused in the case, Neeraj with the aid of his friend Yogendra Rao, set Rupali on fire. The prosecution demanded that Supriya's bail application be rejected.
Supriya's counsel told the court that ``She had had an affair with Neeraj'', something her mother had denied all along. However, he maintained that she was in no way a party to the attack and killing. ``Since the court is dealing with a girl, and considering that she has no criminal antecedents, the court should sympathetically consider her application for bail,'' he pleaded.
Outside the court, Rupali's distraught mother told Express Newsline: ``I don't knowwhat we are being made to pay for.'' She was bitter about reports in some vernacular papers which had ``cast a slur on Supriya's character.''
