Collector wants land handed over to SMC
The district collector has ordered to hand over a piece of land in Katargam to Surat Municipal Corporation for construction of water works project there. It was a surplus land from the one acquired under the civic body's embankment scheme. The land could not be used for the embankment scheme and was lying idle. A proposal was sent to the Revenue department by the district administration, following which the chief minister held a meeting with the Surat collector, the mayor and the municipal commissioner in Gandhinagar. The sanction was given by the state government subject to certain conditions. District Collector R M Shah passed the order handing over the land to SMC on Monday.

Transferred
Assistant forest conservator Bhawaniprasad Pati of the Dangs (south) has been promoted and transferred to the Sasan Gir forest as a deputy conservator of forests, a release issued by the administration stated. Pati has served in various capacities in Dangs. New range forest officers have been appointed in all the seven ranges of South Dangs in the past one month, Deputy Conservator of Forests, South, Ramkumar said in a statement.

Eye camp held
As many as 275 villagers were provided free eye-care treatment and spectacles at a camp organised by the forest department in association with Navsari Rotary Eye Institute at Hanvatchond village in South Dangs. This was the 14th diagnosis camp organised by the department in the current year. The camp was held in the presence of Dang MLA Madhubhai Bhoi, president of Dangs district panchayat's social justice committee Ramjibhai Gavit and DFO Ram Kumar. Twenty two villagers were also handed over cheques of Rs 44.49 lakh as a compensation for trees grown on their land.

Special courses
The Gujarat Mahila Arthik Vikas Nigam has decided to conduct special courses in beauty treatment for tribal girls. As many as 25 tribal girls have enrolled for the course, instructor Amita Patel said in a statement, adding besides hair cutting, girls would be taught manicure, waxing, threading, various hair styles, and other beauty treatments.
