Cops secure 4-day remand for Grover on four-day remand

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Oct 12: The Surat police secured a four-day remand of controversial builder and land broker Hanskamal Grover in a case of cheating and threatening in the Mahidharpura area of the city.

Grover, who has been booked for serious offences including one under the Atrocities Act, was caught from a Vadodara hotel late on Saturday night.

A special team under the direction of Assistant Commissioner of Police (c division) U T Brahmbhatt, will investigate his alleged involvement in a number of cases.

Talking to Express Newsline, Brahmbhatt said no concrete information could be extracted from him as he was remanded to custody for a minor offence. However, he added, that something concrete would emerge when he would be remanded for a serious offence.

The city Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) police along with a team led by Mahidharpura PI Noel Parmar and PI K M Chauhan brought Grover to the city from Vadodara early on Monday after he was nabbed from Hotel Sagar in Raopura area. Incidentally, the hotel owner was allegedly killed by members of the Abu Salem gang in Mumbai just four days ago, a fact that strengthens the city police's claims of Grover having underworld links.

Besides cases of cheating, threatening and land grabbing, the police have registered a case under the Atrocities Act against Grover for attempting to grab the land of the Sarvodaya Sewa Mandir Trust at Ghod Dod Road which belongs to a SC/ST trust. The police are also probing into the possible links of the builder with the underworld and whether he used their assistance for organised extortionists.
