UDHAMPUR, Oct 14: The corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME) of Indian Army will soon be able to produce a new device and develop equipment to neutralise Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) being used by militants to damage vehicles and cause casualties of security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.The EME chief of the northern command, Maj. General, A.K.Sharma, told a groups of visiting media persons here yesterday the research development wing of the EME has taken effective measures to counter the electronic fitted high grade IEDs being used by the militants in the state to cause maximum casualties.
He said all vehicles would be equipped with the anti-IED devices to counter the enemy's nefarious designs in the state.
The militants were using electronic and remote fitted devices to blow up the vital installations and army vehicles from various frequency bands to activate these devices and it was very difficult for the security forces to detect the same due to instable frequency system in thehilly areas like Doda, Kandi-Budhal and Surankot areas of Jammu region.
EME officials and weapon experts have so far defused more than 200 IEDs, including time devices, planted by the militants in various parts of the state, he said.
The army has already intensified counter electronic measures to neutralise the IEDs, he said.
He said in a next few months the Indian Army would be equipped with counter IED devices.
