Salman's arms to be sent for probe

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
MUMBAI, Oct 14: Firearms suspected to have been used by actor Salman Khan to slay two black bucks and a chinkara in Rajasthan recently, would be sent to Jodhpur soon for examination by the state forest department there, police sources said here today.

Explaining the procedure, the sources said Salman Khan's relatives would be required to send the firearms to Rajasthan by the time the actor is again produced before a judge there on expiry of his remand to forest department custody on October 16. Salman allegedly used the firearms and sent them back to Mumbai to escape detection.

Mumbai police, however, has no jurisdiction in the matter which concerns wildlife protection authorities, sources said. Meanwhile in Jodhpur, Salman said:``I am innocent and being implicated in the poaching case without any reason.'' ``I myself love wild animals. How can I shoot them?'' asked Salman as reporters met him on his way to the office of the Conservator of Forests, where he spent his second night in detentionyesterday.

Looking calm and serene, the matinee idol said he was fully cooperating with the investigation, adding, however, that he was also ``feeling confused''. The actor had to be content with an ordinary cot and bare furniture in the makeshift living room created inside the forest office for his remand. The only concessions to luxury were clean mattresses and a desert cooler in addition to friendly guards. The actor's younger brother Sohail Khan has arrived here to take care of his brother's case while the film unit which was here for shooting of the Hindi film Hum Saath Saath Hain left Jodhpur last night following Salman's arrest and detention.

Salman was interrogated by the forest officials till late last night to get his version of the poaching incident.

The 1999 calender of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) calling the youth to save the environment in which Salman has modeled is currently available in some of the leading stalls in Mumbai. Along with Salman, the calender also featuresShah Rukh Khan, Govinda, Raveena Tandon and Kajol with various captions -- calling public to save earth, flora and fauna and environment.

Travel your way to good health -- use bicycle or better still, walk whenever you can, reads the caption, below a picture of Salman. The WWF in a release has called for a social boycott of the so-called public figures. Several environmentalists have condemned the incident and demanded strict action against all those involved in it.
