NEW DELHI, October 14: The Keshavpuram police have arrested a 30-year-old woman and have charged her with kidnapping a four-year-old girl, Babita, from outside her schoool, the Kendriya Vidyalaya, on Lawerence Road yesterday. The police were able to get an eye-witness account from the autorickshaw driver who has been taking the girl home everyday after school. According to the driver, one minute the girl was sitting inside the vehicle and the next she had disappeared. The driver, Banwari, says he turned away to check whether or not the other children who would be travelling with him had come out of the school. When he looked back he found the little girl missing. It was then that he reported seeing a woman running away from the scene with the same little girl.
The driver reportedly raised an alarm. He said that a constable on patrol who heard his cries chased the woman. She was later arrested.
A case of kidnapping has been registered against the woman at the Keshavpuram police station. The girl has been handed over to her parents. But the police are still investigating the motive behind the attempted kidnapping.
