LUDHIANA, Oct 20: A young woman Bimla Rani (28) was burnt to death while her husband Kamal also sustained burn injuries in a bid to save her. The couple of Baba Than Singh Road was caught in a fire caused by crackers in their house. kamal has been admitted to local civil hospital. His condition was stated to be out of danger.
Meanwhile, nine incidents of fire were reported to the municipal fire brigade here during the Diwali night. Barring one incident in which a small cracker shop was destroyed in the blaze near Kailash Cinema Chowk, all others were brought under control before these could cause much damage.
Two major hospitals in the city Dayanad Medical College and Hospital and CMC received 12 and 16 burn cases respectively. However, in most of the cases, the victims were discharged after first aid while about half a dozen burn patients were being treated in these hospitals.
