N-energy will power economic growth: PM
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on Friday made a strong pitch for nuclear energy, saying it would power India's economic growth even as he dispelled fears about its safety. Advocating speedy development of nuclear power, Vajpayee said the country's economic development was dependent on the availability of adequate energy resources.
Jaya, Mamata too rap BJP on education meet
Two of the key allies of the BJP have joined the chorus of castigation against Human Resources Development minister Murli Manohar Joshi's bid to push an `unofficial agenda' at the education ministers' meeting. While Jayalalitha deplored the alleged `aborted' attempts of Joshi to get a sectarian agenda cleared, Mamata Banerjee charged that "the BJP is trying to saffronise the education system.''
Patel throws in gauntlet against Gowda
The stage is virtually set for a trial of strength between the two warring factions in the ruling Janata Dal in Karnataka, with former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Friday setting a deadline for Chief Minister J H Patel to demonstrate his strength at an "emergency'' Janata Dal Legislature Party (JDLP) meet.
