Sinha too comes up with promises
A day after Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee unveiled a series of economic measures, Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha announced a fresh bunch of promises and statements of intents aimed at strengthening the economy. He said the government was planning to expand the automatic route for foreign investment approvals to include all sectors.

TMC hits out at BJP's education policy
The Tamil Maanila Congress has condemned the education policy of the BJP-led government at the Centre, saying the regressive, communal policy aimed at denying emancipation of and equal rights to women. According to the BJP's perception, women should remain at home as in the past and refrain from demanding economic independence and social status based on equity, the TMC said.

AP quota ordinance will go to President
The Chandrababu Naidu Cabinet has accepted the decision taken by Governor C Rangarajan to refer to President K R Narayanan the ordinance to rationalise the reservation of Scheduled Castes (SCs) in Andhra Pradesh.

Advani cautions against criminalisation of business
Home Minister L K Advani on Sunday said a network of criminals having links with the business community was growing posing a threat to national security. He added that economic offences and corrupt business practices were a direct threat to national security because such offences needed protection sought by either corrupting law and order machinery or by aiding criminal elements.
